Season 7: Mentalist

First off, am I the only one who finds the episode titles.....odd this season? I don't know I mean....they are just sorta out of left field? Or maybe I'm reading to into it, like I know tonight's episode was named after the show The Mentalist where it features psychics and stuff so maybe I'm just over analyzing things as usual *shrugs*

But any who I managed to stay away from spoilers and promos alike! Which if anyone knows me, they know I am a complete spoiler whore and seek them out regularly. So tonight's episode was a nice change of pace.

Sadie reference! Ha I love this show. Sadie is of course Jared's dog. And the show doesn't start off lightly, I'll tell ya that. The death? Pretty freaking gorey. Which I LOVE BTW.

And I like that they kept it to where Sam and Dean didn't magically make up. I mean this Amy thing is personal and I like that they stuck through with it through the episodes. And where is the Impala?

And I like that the girl spotted them and was about to call police! Haha they get plastered all over the news but for some reason people just think their your average Joe which isn't the case lol

And it's also nice to see them working a routine gig. Which is refreshing, or at least to me. We know Sam's pissed and Dean's stressed but at least their confiding in each other over a case. Just a straight forward case that is without heavy angst or the main plot line. I really like filler episodes, they give us an escape from some of the heaviness that surrounds the plot.

The lore on psychics is interesting. Do you believe in them? And what do you think about how it all relates to Sam? Because Sam was a psychic once I wonder what was going on in his head about this stuff. Considering that supposedly they all had visions of their death. So many parallels there, I kinda miss Sam's visions.

And YUM can the boys stay in suits all the time? Just hot damn!

"We're not FBI agents." LOL They only get to say that about once and it usually ends with, "I need a drink!" LOL I find this amusing. You think people who are psychics or practice the stuff would have some belief in spirits and ghosts and it would be easier to explain.

"That was just an alternative for their lifestyle." OMG I will never tire of the gay jokes. NEVER! I just want to cuddle this show forever and ever.

So many parallels in this to the boys. I'm really loving all the parallels we are seeing.

Is it just me or is Dean being the dick? I mean Sam had every reason to be angry, and hold a grudge. How many times has Dean held grudges against Sam? Yet Dean is trying to say Sam is the one being a bitch to him? Well Dean sometimes it doesn't feel great to be on the receiving end does it? To have Sam hold a grudge and be pissed at you? I think Dean got used to the idea that Sam usually forgives him.

I still think Dean was in the wrong, he lied to Sam about Amy, betrayed his trust and expects Sam to be all ok with that which surprise, surprise he wasn't. Sometimes I just don't understand Dean and his need to always be right. He held that trump card of Sam couldn't kill Amy so he had too which like Sam said is bull.

And sweaty Sammy digging a grave! YUMMY

And of course the case isn't over, it never is that simple for the Winchesters which is like the understatement of the year.

You know sometimes I wish Sam could stay with the girl. I don't know, I mean after Amy I just wish Sam could have some lady friends LOL even if that sounds weird. You know, him saving the damsel in distress.

This is some evil bitch of a ghost too! I'll tell ya that.

But I can't be mad at some Sammy with the creepy guy! Woo hoo for that at least but then of course we get no hurt!Sam :C We get Dean tossed around but nothing with Sam :C I had a sad

And we didn't get a hug but we got some reconciliation which is more than we can hope for from them at this moment. I understand the Cas situation but you would think Dean could trust Sam now? I mean hasn't Sam proved himself enough for Dean's trust again? Even if Dean doesn't trust anyone else again he could at least trust Sam right?

And...Sam is of course under some kinda love spell. Can you imagine the bride being Becky? LOL

I don't know, I find it all kinda weird. Like you said Sam went to HELL for Dean to trust him again and yet he still won't. I think it's because Dean has this thing of always being right and being proved wrong is like a physical blow to him.

I really just want Sam to be all, "Dean, I went to Hell for you to trust me again and if you can't trust me still, why did I bother going to Hell?" and then Dean to get some sense knocked into him. Like, why couldn't beyond-the-grave!Ellen have been all like, "Dean, trust Sam ffs". LOL.

It's not just you, OH NO. Dean is being a bit of a dick. Like you said, it's the trust thing: In episode two he's all like "And you're just the open book you've always been, aren't you?" when he found out Sam was lying about the hallucinations. And then Sam gets mad at him when he finds out about the lie and he's all "I did what I had to!" like he wasn't expecting Sam to get so pissed.

Like you, I loved how they were on America's Most Wanted less than two weeks ago and now only ONE person recognizes them. XD

Oh, I cannot WAIT for the explanation behind the next episode. I CANNOT. I'm starting to wonder if a certain someone's gone off the deep-end and, like you said, bewitched him into it. XD EITHER WAY, IT'S LOOKIN' LIKE LOLs FOR US!

I just feel like that are so many double standards that Dean houses, and it's sad because Sam can't hold a grudge and be pissed without Dean accusing him of being a dick or being a bitch :(

Exellent review! Right now, I'm too freaking HAPPY to see the boys reconciliated to even care about Dean's attitude! You think Dean's being a dick? I don't know... It's so true that he hold MONSTRUOUS grudges against the ones who betrayed him but... maybe it's only because it's hard to gain his trust in the first place, you know?

And the fact that he can't take Sam mad at him? I seriously analyzed this as Big-Brother thing. ^^

This episode totally erased the horrible taste the two previews left in my mouth. It was hard seeing Sam so cold and pissed and pushing away the (pathetic, somewhat lame but cute) attempts of jokes Dean made all along the ep! Like it was cute to see him trying to hold out his smile.

I never like it when they're at odds against each other! Sam is SO adorable, he can't hold grudge! I mean, I didn't forget how he so (too) easily forgive Cas after he broke the wall. I really think that Dean is deeply marked by Castiel's betrayal, but you are right. Dean should trust his brother, at least, after everything, he OWN him that!

Did you get the Ellen's reference? that was weird.

Now I'm just thrilled because Dean basically said to Sam that if he was drinking so much and acting out, it was because he didn't like lying to him. AWWWW

God, I hope Sam is under a love potion, but what if he's not? WHAT IF HE MARRIED THE ULTIMATE MARY-SUE???

haha! Yeah I know what you mean! I have a brother and he's six years older, and if he think I'm mad at him for something, he just keep nagging me and try to make it up to me, (generally lamely) until I cave and give him a hug.

Still think Sam is going to married the utimate Mary-sue... or an alien. or a monster. (I objectivly based this speculations on his sexual's entercourses history... *crack up*)

I liked the scene in the restaurant where Dean tries too hard to act like everything's normal while Sam just sits there all filled with tension. It was perfect acting on both J's parts. But as for Dean yelling at Sam? Yeah, he was being a dick, but I also think it's because one, Dean always sees things in black and white (which is something that I both respect and dislike about him), and two, he was kind of tired of Sam ignoring him. Dean's fuse is just short. However, I am still mad at him and thought that Sam could have at least clocked him one, ya know, cause Sam never gets to punch Dean.

The Ellen reference was sweet, and Dean should really listen. He's so goddamn stubborn and the whole "I can't trust now cause of Cas" is pretty stupid to me. Sam deserves that trust. Dean grouping things together like that makes no sense. But whatever floats his drunken boat, I guess. I can't wait for next week! :DDDD

Hah you're right! He is stubborn and has a very short fuse, he can hold grudges longer than anyone I ever seen and Sam usually gives in or forgives someone just to keep the peace and make everyone happy.

Yeah but Sam made up for that, he spent all of season 5 trying ti make right all he had done and garner Dean's trust back. At the end of season 5 he even jumped in the pit to right his biggest wrong. Sam's repented for his sins and deserves to be trusted again it's Dean who can't let go of grudges.

I'm pissed, to be honest. Dean gets pissed at Sam ALL THE TIME, for the stupidest things, and Sam doesn't have a right to be pissed for once in his lifetime without ending up apologising again because Dean is always right? I mean, Dean didn't even apologise for lying to him, which is even worse than killing Amy really.
I'm kinda tired of Sam being in the doghouse all the time even when it's Dean who messed up...

Although I love the boys together, this time the reconciliation didn't sit right with me. Dean got off the hook much too easily. He really never had to examine why Sam was hurt or that he owed Sam more than a quick sorry, then telling Sam why he was right and Sam was wrong, then when Sam forgives him everything becomes about how much Dean is hurting. I was massively let down in the end.

I was happy the boys aren't 'feuding' but like you said Dean got off way to easy, and practically the whole episode Dean made a show Sam being the dick and him being the one hurting cause of it. Like really?

Sorry this is late - i like your review. I'm trying to think this one over, i've read a lot of episode reviews (some i agree with - like this one and others i disagree with) I liked most of this episode, but i agree that the ending was the most problematic for me considering that i really wanted Sam to share how he felt about Dean lying to him, just one sentence writers, please so we can explore Sam as a character further. Look i love Dean, but seriously, please just start letting him deal and move on from his countless issues that have been present for years now.I don't know sometimes it feels like Sam's a sprinter and his issues are quickly dealt with whereas Dean's like a cross country runner and he's still running. And please soon writers can we explore Sam and his hallucination and how he is feeling and actually dealing with hell - please.

Yeah the ending was just, I think Sam gave in way to easily when Dean was obviously wrong, I know Sam just wants to know what's wrong with Dean but he shouldn't sacrament what he thinks is right just to please him.

Hmmmm, i think i'm ok with Sam forgiving Dean as Sam is usually the one to forgive others easily than Dean (castiel) i think what irritated me was that i just wanted it explored more how Sam felt about Dean lying when he was relying on Dean to be his stone number 1.
