Season 8: Bitten

Wow this episode.
Man it's hard for me to try and articulate how much I really enjoyed it. I'll admit at first the pace seemed slow and rather boring because NO SAM AND DEAN. But the writing behind this was quite brilliant. Reminded me of Ghostfacers which I ADORED because it felt more personal and while pretty much making fun of what Sam and Dean do, it's still outsiders seeing Sam and Dean and how they function around each other.
That is important for us as an audience because we're so comfortable with who Sam and Dean are we sometimes forget to those people? Sam and Dean are scary and likely psycho serial killers.
So...
Let's begin.
We got to see Sam and Dean as outsiders. We truly got to see how others view them. As it were a bunch of teenagers goofing off, trying to fit in and have a good time.
The little office romance nods we're hilarious, and reminds me of Season 1 when they frequently got the lovers annotation. It's kind of good to know that even after all this time Sam and Dean aren't so far off that outsiders assume they aren't even friends. Yet they assume much more.
So with that I just really enjoyed seeing Sam and Dean like that, and how the episode was set up. Because I think them watching that video was important. You can see it on their faces that it affected them greatly, in different ways. Dean needed to be reminded that this isn't purgatory anymore. It's no more kill or be killed nor is it so cut and dry. Like he learned in Season 2 from Gordon and the vampires sometimes monsters don't warrant being killed. I think that was really important for Dean to see again.
Sam learned about how life is fragile, that what they do is truly important. It impacts a lot of people, monsters impacts a lot of lives and ruin them, turn good people, turn kids into something like they saw. That's why it's important for them to continue to do what they do.
Or at least that's what I hoped they both learned.
For me, the outsiders POV made this episode. The fight with morals and ethics at such a young age is really poignant for a lot of people. I'm really glad they let Kate go, it may come back to bite them in the ass but I think after watching that video it would have been hard just to track her down and kill her.
It was also interesting to see the battle (Brian I think was his name right?) had with wanting to be a werewolf. Because he wanted to be something. That was so tragic.
It reminds me of Romeo and Juliet except a lot more blood.
Anyway, not much on the Sam and Dean front. I thought this episode was rather powerful even with it being a filler. Because I think Sam and Dean needed to see this. It reminded me of the Blair Witch Project or Paranormal Activity....creepy.
And as I put it on tumblr when the episode was all over:
fuck me silly that was so fucked up
yet so deliciously twisted omg
I can’t even articulate what I think of that episode
Some questions:
- When are we going to see more flashbacks? I'm insanely curious about Sam's time with Amelia. Maybe next episode?
- Crowley? Where is he what is he up to? Is he the scheduled big bad this Season? Or are we going to get blind sided?
- Benny, he has basically a whole episode on HALLOWEEN. I still don't trust him and judging from the promo Sam doesn't either but it showed Dean bringing him blood which wow...who would have thought? I sincerely hope Benny doesn't bite Dean in the ass (not literally people get yo minds out of the gutter lol) but I have a feeling this 'friendship' will.
Here's the promo for the next ep! Can't wait:

I laughed at the whole: " they talked about being apart for a year."

Date: 2012-10-26 04:42 am (UTC)1. They boys are sympathetic to a girl turned werewolf
2. It's not her fault she's a werewolf
3. There was love, and there was death
4. An amazingly sad, yet terribly underappreciated song played at the end.
I loved this episode, even if Sam and Dean weren't in it much. The characters felt real, (although, I gotta say, it felt a little like they were borrowing from TeenWolf, with the one guy wanting to be a werewolf - kinda like Jackson) and they brought back an old familiar monster, but put a new spin on it, keeping things fresh.
Also, I cried for maybe two minutes at the end.
I cried way back when I first saw "Heart"as well. Something about these werewolves man. Anyway, I loved it, and I think season 8 is amazing, fantastic, and brilliant so far.
